Brandon Quinn Dixon

Brandon Dixon is a well-known jazz saxophonist and composer. He performs and composes in the styles of jazz, fusion, funk, and rock. He has more than a decade of experience in his field. ​

Dixon performs in a variety of venues, including Chris's Jazz Cafe, the Washington Banquet and Catering, Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, Shanghai Jazz, and the Tuckahoe Inn, as well as Rowan University, NJMEA Convention, and the University of Maryland. He is based in South Jersey, where he primarily performs, but he also occasionally travels out-of-state.

​ Brandon Dixon, along with Evan Smith, leads a six-member jazz/fusion group. Dixon writes and arranges original compositions for the sextet. In addition to this group, Dixon has lead jazz quartets, jazz duos, and other groups. In addition to his own groups, he performs alongside talented musicians such as Evan Smith, Ryan Cullen, Chris Simonini, Louis Pettinelli, Adam Shaber, George Rabbai, Patrick Oberstaedt, and Frankie Avalon. ​

Dixon is conducting research into quarter-tones for the saxophone. He is in the process of creating a technique book. When completed, this book will include fingerings for all of the notes throughout the range, a guide on nomenclature, historical references, note exercises, and etudes. It will be the first book of its kind for the saxophone. ​

Brandon Dixon is also a private instructor in the areas of jazz, composition, and saxophone technique. He currently gives in-home lessons. In the past, he gave lessons with the Guitar Shop in Howell, NJ. ​

During his time at Rowan University, he studied jazz, composition, and saxophone technique under Denis DiBlasio, Carl Cox, Timothy Powell, and Ed Vezinho, while working on his Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance. During this time at Rowan, he performed with its top ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Lab Band. He also composed and arranged for the Lab Band Ensemble. ​

In 2014, Brandon received the Bill Walters NJJS Jazz Scholarship through the New Jersey Jazz Society and was invited to perform at the Shanghai Jazz restaurant with a group from the William Paterson University. He also performed at the 2014 NJMEA Convention with the New Jersey Intercollegiate Jazz Band. In 2016, Dixon was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda honors society. ​

Dixon's musical influences include John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Chris Potter, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Michael Brecker.

Credentials/Background

Dixon studied Saxophone Jazz Performance at Rowan University. During this time, he spent four years studying under saxophonists Denis DiBlasio, Timothy Powell, and Carl Cox. He has also studied with Anthony Salicandro and Chris Farr. Currently, he is writing a technique book for quarter tone extended technique.
