Christophe Pays

Christophe started as a self-taught guitarist in his teens, playing in rock bands. He studied jazz at the EDIM School near Paris, with Daniel Beaussier, Manu Pékar, Vincent Jacqz, Patrick Fradet, and particularly with Eric Schultz. At the same time, he took classes in music analysis and composition with Christine Mennesson at the Conservatoire of Fontenay-sous-bois. In 1999, he met the singer Mia Livolsi and launched a trio (voice, guitar, cello) dedicated to traditional Italian songs. In 2000, he settled in Nantes and started playing with Brazilian percussionist Pedro Martins. He gradually developped his own compositions, and founded his own jazz ensemble, Ellipse, in 2003. He also composes music for the stage, and has recorded with another ensemble, Respir’Quartet, music for a children’s theatre production, “Le Bouquet de fleurs.”
