Chris Ward

Tenor saxophonist Chris Ward was born in Connecticut in 1982, and began playing music at the age of 9. In 2000, Chris moved to Boston to attain a Bachelors of Music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Chris quickly immersed himself in the Boston music scene independently and through the school. While at Berklee, Chris studied privately with George Garzone and Frank Tiberi and was a member of many of the colleges top ensembles directed by such jazz legends as Hal Crook and Joe Lovano. Chris was also a member of the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Greg Hopkins. He has performed on stage with Joe Lovano, George Garzone, Bill Pierce, and Michele Camilo. Chris is also the co-leader of his group GO which has recorded and performed his original music. He has performed around Boston doing styles from jazz to funk at top clubs like Ryles Jazz Club, Harpers Ferry, All Asia and Copperfields. On tenor sax, Chris has recorded and been aired on WBGH Boston, and XM radio in Washington, DC. He also performed at the 2004 Tri-C Jazz Festival in Cleveland and the 2005 Blues Alley Jazz Festival in Washington, DC. Currently Chris is attending New York University as a Masters Degree candidate in Jazz Performance/Composition. Since his enrollment he has studied and performed with Kenny Werner, John Scofield, Wayne Krantz, Gil Goldstein, Richard Bona, Dafnis Preito and Chris Potter. He has also performed at the famed Blue Note Jazz Club with Gil Goldstein, John Scofield, Joe Lovano and Kenny Werner. At the moment he is studying with Lenny Pickett director of the Saturday Night Live Band.
