West coast Canadian born Devin Roth travels the world seeking adventure and natural vistas of beauty as inspiration for his music. As a composer and pianist, Devin paints musical landscapes inspired by his experiences which capture the hearts and minds of his listeners. His music is much more than just jazz; his musical finesse and compositional prowess display a broad pallet of various styles including classical, rock, Latin and Celtic. Childhood Places, Devin’s debut album, features compositions inspired by the beautiful landscapes of British Columbia, Canada and the experiences of his adventurous outdoor upbringing in this dramatic geography. The fast flowing streams and majestic mountains of his childhood home are specifically exemplify in his compositions “Kettle River” and “Okanagan Mountain”. Devin attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he studied with Juno Award winning pianist, Jeff Johnston, and Juno Award winning composer, Christine Jensen, to earned a Bachelors of Music Jazz Piano Performance. Following his graduation he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Jazz Composition program at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA where he studied with some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians including the legendary bassist Dave Holland, Grammy award winning bassist Cecil McBee and multiple Grammy nominated pianist Fred Hersch. As a result of his high level of achievement, Devin received a Masters of Music with Academic Honors and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda music honors society. On more than one occasion, Devin’s compositions were selected and featured by the Toronto Jazz Orchestra at their annual “O Canada Celebrating Canadian Composition” concert. In 2010, he was selected to compete in the Jazz En Rafale talent contest in Montreal and subsequently went on to place 2nd in the competition. Devin was also a finalist for the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers’ Awards for the years 2011 and 2012. Devin is pursues a career in composition and performance that is designed to bridge the gap between jazz, classical, rock and folk by dipping into a well of influence that includes Dave Holland, Charles Ives, Radiohead and Joni Mitchell. As a result of his wide range of influences, he is able to bring his audience on a unique musical adventure.
