Dierk Peters

Dierk Peters is a Brooklyn based Vibraphonist. Originally from Germany he moved to the US in 2016, and is a now sought-after improviser and composer on both sides of the Atlantic. He is a distinctive voice on his instrument with a unique sound that emphasizes the warmth and depth of the vibraphone, and with his incomparable harmonic agility he surpasses its percussive nature.

He has been awarded with the Praetorius Music Price, the highest music price of his home state of Lower Saxony, soloist and band prices at the B-Jazz-, Convento-, Jazz d’avignon- and Jugend Jazzt - competitions and grants and scholarships by the States of Northrhine Westphalia & Lower Saxony, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, among many others. He received his Diploma Summa Cum Laude from the conservatory in Cologne, Germany and his Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York.

With his co-lead bands Offshore & Botter, he released 4 albums with his compositions, all of which were critically acclaimed and featured in all major jazz magazines and radio stations in Germany, Europe and beyond.

His debut as a solo leader ‘Ambrosia’ was produced in cooperation with DLF-radio, the Cafe Royal foundation and the German Ministry of Culture, and was released in 2019.

Spring’, his newest project, was recorded in NYC in 2021, for which he received the ‘Pathways to Jazz’ grant by the Boulder County Arts Alliance, and will be released on Sunnyside Records in October 22.

As a sideman he can be heard on dozens of records with artists including Niels Klein, Chris Speed, Pablo Held, Lenny White, Janning Trumann, Jacob Sacks, Jens Boeckamp, Drew Gress and Jochen Rueckert.

Both as a leader and a sideman, he has been playing at such prestigious festivals like the WDR Jazzfest, the International Jazzweek in Burghausen,  Tremplin Jazz d’Avignon, SWR Jazz etc., and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and countless other venues all around the world.
