Eddie Skuller does sad with a capital "S." But the cabaret singer with the high tenor voice avoids a pity party, shading his songs with depth and texture. His show's called "Sad Songs to Make You Happy."

Skuller's a fan of Jimmy Scott, not only because they share high voices, but also because of how the veteran singer connects with audiences and manipulates a song's tempo. On his new CD "Somebody's Fool," Skuller embraces the dark and moody but injects the tender promise of hope. Not an easy thing for most singers to pull off.

It didn't take a lot of rocket science to unravel the meaning of Somebody's Fool. The opening tracks are the Etta Jones-associated hit “Don't Go To Strangers," the traditional “Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child" and George Harrison's “Give Me Love," all done in a stripped-down ballad presentation. Eddie Skuller's voice hovers somewhere between the ionosphere and the microphone, revealing an obvious affinity for the vocal stylings of Jimmy Scott (aka Little Jimmy Scott).
