Ethan Mitchel Stern
Only through being offered a scholarship through Tulane University did Ethan consider moving to New Orleans. For years, his heart had been set on going to New York city, yet he found a place that couldn't be better for him. Under the tutelage of Jesse McBride, he gained a profound love of the music and composers of New Orleans including several he has been able to perform with including Donald Harrison Jr., Ellis Marsalis, Maurice Brown, George Porter Jr., and Delfeayo Marsalis.
After spending three years studying in New Orleans and one in Amsterdam at the Conservatory van Amsterdam, he discovered his deep appreciation for any music that pushes the boundary of what is art. Looking to all corners of music for inspiration, he is involved with projects that range from Afrobeat band Kumasi, singer/songwriter Abby Diamond, modern jazz project the Mike McCullough Quartet, Jazz/pop project Loose Willis and his own personal project Jazz/Rock/Funk outfit Doombalaya. Ethan has been commissioned to compose for various A Capella groups, jazz groups, and hip hop outfits.
Ethan loves music that has an appreciation for silence.
