Gary Brown

From a humble beginning as a local New Orleans artist, Gary Brown has become well known internationally, as well, as a soulful saxophonist and singer. He is in demand in Europe and South America. While his forte is blues, he is equally eloquent in jazz, pop, and gospel. Gary Brown & his breathtaking ensemble Feelings have traveled the world entertaining thousands with his amazing musical appeal and stage presence. Gary studied under Dr. Edwin ‘Kidd’ Jordan for 8 years at Bethune High School, then he went on to Southern University of New Orleans and attended Xavier University Conservatory of Music and studied under Dr. Richard Harris. Brown has become a phenomenal voice in the jazz and blues world touring countries such as Brazil, Italy & Austria etc., He was featured weekly at one of the most exceptional R&B/Jazz Clubs in the world, the legendary 554 Club located on the historical Bourbon Street in the heart of The French Quarter for decades. His musical styles include Jazz, R&B Soul, Funk, Gospel, & Reggae. His repertoire includes a long listing of collaborations with some the world’s biggest musicians, recorded and toured with Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Joe Cocker, the Bee Gees, Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Wilson Pickett, and many more. In addition, he recorded the instrumental sound track, "Alone At The Drive In Movie" for the motion picture "Grease," starring John Travolta. Gary Brown started his own label Gabbro Records, and has released several solo projects including “Welcome to New Orleans,” “My Heaven,” “The Key,” “Blues on Bourbon,” “Gary Brown & Feelings: Doin’ It Live,” “ Ms. Magic,” “More Love, ” and his latest effort dedicated to the rebuilding of New Orleans “Coming Home.” Like many others, Gary Brown lost everything in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is currently performing in cities other than New Orleans. After many, many years as a popular Bourbon Street Headliner Gary felt the heartbreak of Katrina in his musician's soul, and collaborating with producer/engineer JBo ( Smokey Jones ) Hopkins and Sam ( Soul Machine ) Henry, put together this magical new album "Comin' Home"which features songs and feelings of all who suffered and were scattered by the storm.

There's the 20-plus years I was away from the music scene, then there's the feeling when your lover leaves and your heart breaks... alone and empty, and finally, the beatnik/hipster notion of an irrevocably cool person.

I have returned to music and am proud to present these original compositions brought wonderfully alive by the musicianship of Ernie Watts, Babatunde Lea, Gary Brown, Harold Muniz, and especially Mary Stallings ...
