Jenny Hill

Jenny Hill's new band, the Chill Factor, features her original compositions and a few standards, played by Jenny on saxes and flute, Jerome Harris on bass guitar, Stefan Bauer on vibraphone, Curtis Fowlkes on trombone, and Todd Isler on drums and percussion. The grooves are drawn from the Northeast of Brazil, West Africa, and modern jazz.

Jenny Hill’s musical journey has resulted in a diverse resume that includes jazz, reggae, and latin traditions. She has toured and recorded with reggae greats such as Maxi Priest, Dennis Brown, Toots and the Maytals, and Burning Spear, as well as funk and soul artists Govt. Mule, Corey Glover, Daniel Ponce, Eumir Deodato, Bernie Worrell, DJ Logic, and MC Solaar. While a member of the DIVA jazz orchestra, Ms. Hill performed with jazz artists Nancy Wilson, Dianne Schuur, Clark Terry, Dave Brubeck, and Joe Williams.

Jenny’s original project, the Chill Factor, has performed at the Blue Note and Joe's Pub in NYC and at Gate's Pub Brasilia, Brazil. Her jazz composition “Lost In Shallow Thought” won the JAZZIZ Woodwinds On Fire competition in 1996, and she also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for private study with tenor saxophonist and jazz icon Joe Lovano.

On The Chill Factor, Jenny Hill's third release as a leader, Hill distinguishes herself as a formidable soloist as well as an accomplished composer-arranger and bandleader. Bebop meets Brazil on this versatile outing, which also contains a couple of affecting ballads, an African flavored romp, a bit of off-kilter funk and two inventive takes on jazz classics. Hill leads the way with some bold playing on tenor, soprano and flute, accompanied by a stellar crew of fellow New Yorkers in trombonist Curtis Fowlkes, pianist John DiMartino, vibraphonist Stefan Bauer, acoustic bass guitarist Jerome Harris, electric bassist Oswaldo Amorim, upright bassist Dave Ambrosio and her husband Todd Isler on drums and percussion. Together they strike a soulful accord on these nine invigorating tracks.
