Jim Disner

Jim Disner is a guitarist and composer in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Disner has been involved with music his entire life. In his school days he had the good fortune to study jazz and guitar with Ron Miles, Jerry Hahn, Dale Bruning and Fred Hess. His guitar tone is reminiscent of Jim Hall, seasoned with modern effects and techniques that resemble Bill Frisell. His compositional style crosses boundaries of genre. It is ambient and melodic.

Along with solo performances, Jim currently plays with Three Squared, Tonali, the Antwon Owens Group, Joshua Trinidad, Erica Papillon-Posey and is one of the founding members of the now defunct Underdog 5.

Jim Disner, Antwon Owens and Nathan Walter make up the band/rhythm section Three Squared. Heavily influenced by Denver trumpeter and composer great Ron Miles and other modern instrumental artists such as John Zorn, Bill Frisell and Don Byron; they perpetuate the evolution of American music through composition and performance.

Always keeping original music at the forefront, Jim has showcased his style with various groups at venues such as Dazzle Jazz Club, The Walnut Room, 1515 Market, Mercury Café, Quixote’s, The D’ Note, Herman’s Hideaway, Falling Rock Tap House, The Brown Palace Hotel, Dulcinea’s, The Oriental Theater, Mercury Café, Toad Tavern, The D’Note, Larimer Lounge, Herb’s, DU Jazz Festival, Metro State Jazz Festival, Colorado Chile Harvest Festival and many others.

He has performed with such notables as Ron Miles, Fred Hess, Rene Marie, Keith Oxman, Shamie Royston, Antwon Owens, Askimbo, the Atomic Brass Project, Joshua Trinidad and Joe Bonner. Along with solo performances, he currently plays with Three Squared, Tonali, the Antwon Owens Group, Joshua Trinidad, Erica Papillon-Posey and is one of the founding members of the now defunct Underdog 5.

Inspired by all kinds of music, Mr. Disner writes for small groups, and plays many different styles such as latin, straight-ahead jazz, avant-garde, folk, rock and funk. His experience has positioned him as one of the most on-demand guitarists in the Denver-Metro area.
