Johannes Ludwig

Johannes Ludwig is a young saxophone player of a new Generation in German Jazz. In 2011 he graduated from the HfM Nuremberg „summa cum laude“ where he has studied with Hubert Winter, Klaus Graf and Steffen Schorn.

Born 1988, he picked up the saxophone at age 9 and later added flute and clarinet to his portfolio. From 2004 to 2007, he was a member of the Youth Jazz Orchestra of he state Baden Württemberg, and from 2008 until 2010 he was a member of the German Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) which took him on tours to South Africa and India. He regularly performs with the renowned Sunday Night Orchestra and pushes the envelope with his own emerging projects Jean Quadrat und the Ludwig Quartett and Quintett. Jean Quadrat has now released the record "Stories from the Road", the Johannes Ludwig Quartet has its record entitled "The Druid's Song" (Nagel Heyer Records 2012). With these projects and also as a sought after sideman he performs on clubs and festivals all over Germany. His composition „Tag am Kap“ has been recorded and released on the CD "BuJazzO Vol.9: Originals". In 2011, he was on tour with the Johannes Enders Saxophone Quartet.

Johannes Ludwig won the Bruno-Rother-Award five times (1st prize in 2012) and is a multiple Youth Jazz Award Winner, also Jean Quadrat is a winner of the international competition "Startbahn Jazz 2011". He shared the stage with such greats as Ack van Rooyen, Loren Stillman, Niels Klein, Johannes Enders, R.A. Ramamani, T.A.S. Mani, Geir Lysne, Steffen Schorn, Claudio Puntin, Lutz Häfner, Jürgen Neudert, Florian Trübsbach and many others.
