Jonathon Haffner

Jonathon Haffner was raised in Southern California where he began playing saxophone at an early age. While in California Jonathon began studying saxophone with Phil Sobel.

Since moving to New York City Jonathon has performed/recorded with Butch Morris, Kenny Wollesen, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, Steven Bernstein, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Uri Caine, Jim Black, Eddie Henderson, Chris Potter, Sex Mob, Cindi Lauper, Jesse Harris, Brazilian Girls, Brian Blade, Graham Haynes, Jonas Mekas, The Nublu Orchestra, Ilhan Ersahin, Elliott Sharp, Art Baron, David Binney, and Rickie Lee Jones.

Jonathon also co-leads the group 'Himalayas' with drummer Kenny Wollesen, and performs in the ensemble 'Now We Are Here' which is led by filmmaker Jonas Mekas.

The prolific virtuoso Wadada Leo Smith gave us two TUM Records box sets in the first half of 2021 and will end the year with two more, including the very ambitious The Chicago Symphonies. The four-disc collection features the trumpeter/composer's Great Lakes Quartet with saxophonist/flutist Henry Threadgill, bassist John Lindberg and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
