Born in Cleveland,Ohio, Kevin’s earliest musical influences were jazz greats like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Count Basie and Nat King Cole. At a young age, Kevin took drum lessons from his uncle, Leon Stevenson and played clarinet in junior high. In college, he pursued music while attending the University of Cincinnati. Later, while playing locally in Cleveland, he decided to relocate to New York City in May of 1979. It was here that Kevin began to study with master drummers Michael Carvin and Jim Payne. He has worked with Cecil Bridgewater, South African musician Tony Cedras, Me'Shell N'Degeocello, actor Mario VanPeebles, Alvin Slaughter, Mark Ledford, Black Rock Coalition Orchestra w/guitarist Vernon Reid, Bill White, Michael Osborn, Arturo O'Farrill, Lafayette Harris, Dave Anderson, various Broadway/Off-Broadway productions and the multi- Grammy-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. In addition, Kevin has recorded and composed music for television and film. He has shared the stage with, Marion Meadows, Phil Perry, Pieces of a Dream, the O'Jays, Bobby Sanabria, Stephanie Mills and Take 6
