A protege of the recently-departed legendary saxophonist Franz Jackson and of jazz singer Janet Planet, Lisa Roti is bringing Chicago style jazz around the world. Regularly appearing at leading venues such as Andy's Jazz Club and Pops for Champagne (Chicago), Rockwood Music Hall (NYC), The Jazz Corner (Hilton Head, S.C.), and overseas tours to Thailand in 2005 and China in 2006.
Ms. Roti's repertoire includes songs sung in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese but it is her sincere and soulful interpretation that speaks to the listener.
From Fats Waller to Tom Petty, Roti's unique arrangements, heartfelt interpretations and impressive vocal range set her apart. From song choice to interpretation, Lisa Roti seems to have her heart in time with the pulse of what's happening now, endearing listeners young and old to the Joy of Jazz.
Roti's CD Comes Love, featuring Franz Jackson and John Harmon (Matrix) recently made it to the CD BABY top-seller list in the "Blues: Jazzy Blues Album" category, has been released in Poland on chart topping smooth jazz compilation: In Love With Jazz Vol 2 and is receiving international airplay.
"Roti is for real, bringing an understated sensuality to what she sings, and
with grace and a smile, at that. Her sultry, laid-back delivery masks an
uncanny knowledge of the lyrics, and did we mention her intonation and
diction are to die for? This is one to take to the bank." TIMEOUT CHICAGO,
CRITIC’S CHOICE

"...she forced a hitherto unruly audience to sit up and listen. In a creative
arrangement (by Bassist Chris Carani) of "If I Only Had a Brain" (from "The
Wizard of Oz"), Roti turned the beloved but timeworn tune into a showcase
for unusual melodic leaps and a disarmingly sweet, semi-comic
interpretation...and in the Gershwins' "The Man I Love," she rode an
unexpected funk backbeat into the edgiest, quirkiest, boldest performance of
this set. Hitting off-beats hard, rewriting the famous melody line and
otherwise holding her own against her colleagues. The rhythmic aggression
and expressive urgency she brought to 'The Man I Love' hushed the crowd
and affirmed Roti's status as a vocalist of real promise."
