Lolu Moore
Lolu is an innovative musician and producer. One of the pioneer producers of afrobeats music, which is currently dominant in Africa, and enjoyed around the world. One of such productions got him a nomination for AMEN Awards’ Producer of the Year (2003). Several awards were also won by fellow artists whom he produced. These include TuFace Idibia, who won MOBO’s Best African Act (2007) following the success of his “Grass to Grace” album for which Lolu produced a fan’s favourite titled “See Me So.”
His first single also dominated several radio charts in Nigeria, remaining at #1 for more than six weeks on the prestigious MTN Top 10. He also performed at the 1999 All-Africa Games’ Guinness Entertainment Centre.
Eventually, he started work in a studio as an in-house producer as well as taking on further education by studying audio engineering in the studio. Here, Lolu worked as production assistant and later, an in-house producer of jingles/commercials. With advertising agency clients, such as Insight Communications, Prima Garnet, STB McCann, Lintas et al. he co-produced/produced several jingles including some for Guinness, Coca-cola, and First Bank of Nigeria.
Lolu’s source of inspiration include the late Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, Nat King Cole and Sade. Influences from soul, jazz, afrobeat, dancehall, and some hip-hop are featured in Lolu's material, creating fusions between the genres.
Shortly before moving to the UK, Lolu was hired to record on Damon Alban’s Lagos session recordings for a Gorillaz's project. A collaboration with Tony Allen came up after that. Lolu was a featured lead vocalist on three tracks off Tony’s album – “Lagos No Shaking” (EMI). A promotional tour followed, and he was selected for the UK dates at Southbank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Jazz Café.
