Italian but musically raised in Paris, where he earned a Jazz Master Degree at highly-respected Conservatoire Nationale Superieur (CNSM), Matteo leads two bands: “ClarOscuro”, a brand new trio with pianist Enrico Zanisi and drummer Stefano Tamborrino (recording is scheduled for May 2017) as well as TRAVELERS a french/italian quartet with saxo player Antonin-Tri Hoang, drummer Ariel Tessier and guitarist Francesco Diodati. With Travelers, Matteo released two albums : his debut in 2013 (“TRAVELERS” Zone di Musica Label) has been highly-welcomed by international press, receiving some important awards as “Révélation Jazzman” (revelation young new talent) and “Jazz Découverte” in France as well as “Jazzit Likes it” in Italy. The album was also unanimously nominated among “one of the best jazz releases in 2013” by italian magazine JAZZIT.
Travelers’follow-up disc “Time Images”was released in 2015 (Auand Records, with the help of Puglia Sounds).
Born in Otranto (South of Italy) in 1982, Matteo began to play classical piano, guitar and electric bass, before starting to play double bass.

Enrico Morello: Cyclic Signs
by Giuseppe Segala

by Giuseppe Segala

2. Elliott Smith, Either/Or (Kill Rock Stars, 1997). Cantautorato struggente post Nick Drake. Between the Bars una delle mie preferite, se avessi una chitarra acustica ad un falò in spiaggia. 3. Paul Bley, Open to Love (ECM, 1972).

Jazz and Travel... what a natural fit! In this installment of Mondo Jazz we continue exploring music that was inspired by the relentless travels that jazz musicians have to endure in order to share their music with their audiences, their departures and arrivals, their discoveries, adventures and misadventures using trains and planes and the places and the people they encounter as they travel, in space and in time, in the spaceways and in the subways. Playlist ...

01. Tigran Hamasyan -Luys I Luso (ECM -2015). Molto poetico e ipnotico. 02. Keith Jarret -Life Between the Exit Signs (Vortex -1967).
