Olcay Saral Composer/Pianist

Olcay Saral unifies sounds of Anatolian and Turkish music with contemporary musical forms and interprets the stories of the Turkish region with an unique style and technique. Combining the melodic, rhythmic richness of the region with his works in jazz and classical genres, which have been his focus since his conservatoire years, Saral uses makam (classical Turkish music; a concept of melodic creation that determines tonal relations) and modal forms in his music. He combines electronic sounds and Anatolian instruments along with piano and offers a musical journey during his performance. Improvisations hold a significant part in the performance of the musician, who is currently performing solo as well as with fellow musicians. Alongside his compositions for movie soundtracks and music for plays, the composer released his solo piano album of improvisations on semi-open compositions from an independent music production platform, "Müzik Hayvanı", in 2012. The influences of makam music can be heard clearly on this album.
