ORPHEUS – A Jazz Name of the Future “Orpheus - New Danish jazzname of the year 2011.” Danish Music Awards

Orpheus is Magnus Friis, Aske Drasbæk, Frederick Menzies and William Larsson. Four boys who, with their playful use of effects and synthesizers and their talent for the compositional and instrumentally complex, deliver a unique and contemporary sound. There is something intense and at the same time dreamy about Orpheus’ numbers, which take the listener on a sail down a river of melodic jazz as well as avant-garde. Contrasts that together form a whole new sound within the jazz music. It is brave, its is interesting and it is addictive. The group was formed in 2008 as a quintet consisting of two saxophones, rhodes/synth, double bass and drums. In 2009, the modern compositions and direction of the music resulted in them deciding on replacing the bass with synthesizers, and they thus became the present quartet. This, within jazz, unusual instrumentation is furthermore one of the things that make the sound of the group something quite special. In 2010, Orpheus recorded their debut album ”A Less Known Hero” in Sweden. A debut album, which earned them a Danish Music Award 2011 in the category ”New Danish Jazz Name”. The group is now out with their third album, Walk on Water.
