Pamela Means Jazz Project

“Pamela Means...in a class by herself,” (Girlfriends Magazine) aptly describes this inimitable artist. Pamela Means, a classical and jazz-trained guitarist and singer-songwriter, with a mantle full of awards and achievements in acoustic music, is returning to her Conservatory roots, embarking upon a parallel trajectory in jazz. Armed with the chops, versatility, and finesse to deliver the goods with style and grace, she presents the Pamela Means Jazz Project, and new cd release, "Pamela Means Jazz Project, Vol. 1"

Pamela Means Jazz Project performances feature Pamela's "smoky vocals and deep rhythms," flying solo or fronting an upright bass duo or trio with drums. The natural timbre and tone of her voice fits the medium perfectly, breathing new life into timeless jazz standards, making each her own. Pamela Means pays homage to the First Ladies of Jazz: Billie, Ella, Sarah, and Dinah - with one exception, she provides the lead and rhythm guitar licks as well!

Pamela Means, Milwaukee-native, studied classical and jazz guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, before heading east to make a mark on the Boston folk scene with her politically-charged, “stark, defiant songs” (New York Times). Currently, Pamela Means maintains a busy schedule touring coast to coast and internationally, making such notable stops as Jazz Cafe Alto in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Stockholm Pride in Stockholm, Sweden; Woodford Folk Festival in Brisbane, Australia; Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island; as well as clubs, theaters, festivals and colleges across the U.S.

Now residing in Brooklyn, NY, Pamela Means has come full circle, with an incessant drive to continue growing artistically, igniting the Pamela Means Jazz Project. “I was inspired by a [John] Coltrane documentary,” Means says, “which highlighted his lifelong obsession, like every serious jazz musician, to master their instrument. I decided to bring jazz back into the foreground, and nurture that part of me as well, along with the singer-songwriter."

“Means is, quite simply, superb...Her guitar playing is very tasty indeed, her voice...tender, and her version of Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit” is heart-rending.” - HiFi Magazine, London UK

"Pamela Means...heir to Nina Simone's legacy?" - Goldenrod Distribution

"...visionary...combination of Michael Franti and Chet Baker..." - Northeast Performer Magazine

"Folk-politico-rocktress" Pamela Means presents a new jazz project and jazz CD. Fronting her own jazz trio, Pamela Means Jazz Project!
