Reuel Lubag

Reuel Lubag is one of the well established jazz artists in the Pacific Northwest jazz scene. He is a graduate of Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. As a member of the Native Jazz Quartet he served as a music ambassador to Latin America for the U.S. Department of State in May 2013 for a jazz festival in Venezuela, and again in April 2014 for a four-week tour which took the group to Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolvia, Peru, and Argentina. Reuel recently released his first self titled release in 2018: Premiere featuring up and coming NYC/Seattle based bassist Ben Feldman, and drummer Ed Littlefield, his bandmate from the Native Jazz Quartet. Reuel also produced and released an album for Tacoma, WA based vocalist Nicki Tollefson with the trio providing support along with NY trombonist Stafford Hunter, and Seattle based tenor saxophonist Andrew Glynn(twin of Seattle bassist Michael Glynn).

Reuel's playing resume includes: John Birks(Dizzy) Gillespie, Joe Williams, Doc Severinsen, Pete Barbutti, Steve Allen, Bud Shank, Terry Gibbs, the Mills Brothers, Buddy Greco, Barbara McNair, Fran Jeffries, Peanuts Hucko, Louise Tobin, Herb Jeffries, John Clayton, Ron Eschete', Jay Clayton, Joe LaBarbera, Bill Ramsay, Bobby Mitchell, Bruce Forman, Hilary Gardner, Christian Fabian, Christian Howes, Ed Littlefield, Todd Strait, Jay Thomas, the Native Jazz Quratet, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Tacoma Symphony, and many, many others.

Reuel teaches privately and has worked with Skagit Valley College, the Edmonds School District, University Of Washington's Elliot Bay Jazz Festival, The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Bellevue Jazz Festival, Jazz In The Valley, Central Washington University, Washington State University, the University of Idaho, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Sitka HS, Eagle River HS, Wellington Secondary School(British Columbia), Ketchikan HS and Musicworks Northwest organization as a clinician, just to name a few. He also has done special clinics for Bellevue, Juanita, Roosevelt, Newport and Edmonds-Woodway high school band programs in the Seattle area.

Reuel has served on faculty at The Centrum Jazz Workshop, Seattle Pacific University directing the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and teaching jazz piano, and for 12 years worked with Evergreen Christian Fellowship in Issaquah as a staff accompanist/arranger. He is also working as a drummer in various groups as needed in both jazz and worship music settings as well as a bassist in church settings.

Reuel has recorded four projects with a group called the "Native Jazz Quartet". This group has recorded two albums under the names of two of the members. Christian Fabian(former Lionel Hampton Bassist) has a 2011 release called "West Coast Sessions" avaialble thru Consolidated Artists Productions(www.jazzbeat.com) and Edward Littlefield - "Walk Between Worlds" available on Pony Boy Records(www.ponyboyrecords.com). The group also has a live DVD called The Native Jazz Quartet - Live in Sitka 2011. The group features on vibes, Jason Marsalis. There was an album released in 2013 under the full name of the group Native Jazz Quartet called 'Stories'. All members contributed songs from each of their backgrounds to the album. For 2017 the rhythm section recorded a new album of material as the Native Jazz Trio due to Jason Marsalis' increased touring schedule with his own quartet as well as moving his family to France. The album is still in post production and set to be released in Fall 2017.
