Ruby was born in New Zealand and has sung for as long as she can remember. Nature has blessed her with a natural warm rich voice that many vocalists have had to study years for to attain. Her pitch, range and timing sets her alongside the best. When she was once asked to describe her unique style she said: "I feel a strong connection with my past and a sense of wonder at each note that comes from my mouth when I sing - I bring my whole life's experience to the stage." Since July 2000 Ruby has based herself permanently in Melbourne Australia, where she performs with some of Australia's best Jazz musicians. For many years, while living in Marlborough and Nelson, Ruby performed in some of its finest resorts, captivating audiences with memorable nights of music that ranged from mellow jazz, sultry sambas, to pure romance.

She has worked and experimented in many styles of music, and settled for what she likes most and does so well: her own vibrant interpretations of some of the best loved jazz standards with upbeat & funky Latin rhythms.

Anybody who has seen or heard Ruby perform anywhere agrees: she is an entertainer. Her stage presentation is second to none. She radiates love, warmth, joy and happiness. Her passionate translation of the lyrics touches the soul. She 'lives' her songs.

Ruby tells her story I come from a musical family and singing has been a happy part of my life for as long as I can remember. The joy and solace it has given me is something I've loved sharing with others.

When I was as young as 7 years old, I would go door to door with my ukulele singing songs for the neighbours in our street. There was always a smile from my 'audience', and often - in particular older people - would invite me in and tell me a story in return.

My school years were spent in school choirs, musical plays, and church concerts. Later, spare time was filled with gatherings of family and friends, where there was always a guitar and songs. Whenever a song was finished we would all laugh out loud at the sheer beauty of the harmonies.

When I started singing professionally, there were more rewards. I sang with small intimate bands, and big bands. These wonderful seasoned musicians also taught me about Jazz and Swing. It was years of fun for all involved.

I eventually had my own 200 seater restaurant in a small town in New Zealand, where I sang 6 nights a week for several years. This was very hard work, but what kept me going was the buzz every night: a full house of happy people having a great time with food, wine and music.

The move to Melbourne to further my career in July 2000 has been a good one for me. Not only did I get the opportunity to perform with some of Australia's best musicians, I also got the chance to meet so many people who love our music, and come back time after time to my residencies and shows.

I get immense pleasure in making people happy by singing for them. I'd like to think that I give them a spark of joy to take home, and hopefully create a lingering feeling of happiness. Ruby. Show less
