Samuel Bonnet

Samuel Bonnet’s music is an instrumental sound exploration traversed at the same time by the improvised tones of jazz and the melancholy of blues. At the crossroads of several musical universes, the guitarist manages to create an eclectic meeting space between classical and contemporary, somewhere at the crossroads of the natural resonance of classical guitar’s nylon strings and jazz inspirations. Through his music, Samuel Bonnet thus tells us his intimate and personal history in continuous dialogue with his plural roots. His musical universe breathes the perfume of acoustic colours, the memory of the uprooting and the nostalgia of a nomadic spirituality. Born in 1980 in Haifa, Israel, Samuel Bonnet grew up in the Paris suburbs where he obtained a music bachelor and took part in numerous and varied musical projects. In 2010, he settled in Montreal, a vibrant multi-cultural city that has inspired him a lot in his creative approach. He participated twice at the Domaine Forget Academy where he trained with great masters such as Roland Dyens, Bruce Holzman and Peter McCutcheon, with whom he obtained a classical guitar performance master at the Montreal University in 2012. Samuel Bonnet has shared the stage with great jazz and world artists such as Joe Magnarelli, Jacques Schwartz- Bart, Daniel Sadownick, Luques Curtis, Fraser Hollins, Bruno Lamarche, Carlos Jimenez, David Ryshpan, Tevet Sela, Alon Farber, Simon Proulx, Mamselle Ruiz, Susana Behar, Jose Luiz de la Paz or Yaïr Dalal among others. With his different projects : Ensemble Tessala, Oriental Blue, Samuel Bonnet Quartet, he performs and tours regularly in North America, France and Israel, and played in major festivals such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Montreal Sefarad Festival and the « Musique en Devoluy » Festival (France), as well as in renowned jazz clubs such as the Rex Jazz Club (Toronto), the Upstairs (Montréal), the Yellow Submarine (Jerusalem) and the Rockwood Music Hall (New York). Very involved in education, Samuel Bonnet teaches classical & jazz guitar and music exploration at the Vincent d'Indy School of Music and has created the "Jazz & Recyclage" workshops, designed to make children aware of the importance of recycling in a creative, playful and ecological approach.
