Sarah Cabral
Cabral moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003. Influenced by musical greats such as Lenine, João Bosco and Antonio Carlos Jobim, she formed a band named Macabae to focus on performing Brazilian popular music from the 1960’s and 70’s – mixed in with a contemporary repertoire. In 2005 she began collaborating with mentor Marcos Silva, with whom she continues to work.
Other collaborations include performances and recordings with Carlos Oliveira, Ricardo Peixoto, Wayne Wallace, Scott Thompson, Alex Calatayud, Aaron Germain, Ian Faquini, Celso Alberti, Kevin Welch (Vagabundo Records), Eva Scow, Phil Thompson, Bob Crawford, Jeff Buens, Espacio, Bororo Felipe and Fabiano Chagas.
Her most recent project is the self-titled Sarah Cabral EP, which Cabral also produced. This project presents a modern approach to Brazilian classics in addition to original compositions by musical luminaries from the San Francisco Bay Area.
