Seguin

Winner of the 2012 Révélation Jazz Radio-Canada prize, Jacques Kuba Seguin is known for his lyrical as well as his strong modern approach to trumpet playing, Jacques was born and raised in Montreal and fits well its multi-ethnicity. Always reaching for his polish roots Jacques thrives for new ways of approaching the traditional jazz idiom. Inspired by his various collaborations with companies like Cirque du soleil and various pop and classical artists Jacques breaks out from jazz tradition to create the urge for improvisation inside his ensembles. In symbiosis with the expressive bass player Frédéric Alarie, Jacques finds new ways to use the sound of the trumpet as rarely heard before by presenting a program that swings between modernity and tradition. Back in town after touring for two years with the Cirque du Soleil in 150 cities around the world and organizing various European and asian tours with his ODD LOT & Litania projekt ensembles, Jacques Kuba Séguin has established himself as one of Montreal’s most prolific composer, arranger and trumpeter. Leader and composer of the ODD LOT sextet funded in 2003, Jacques has released three records under the cooperative record label that he founded ODD SOUND.ca : The ODD LOT (2005), ODD LOT 2/3 (2010), Litania projekt (2012) L'élévation du point de chute (2014). Jacques has performed at the Festival international de jazz de Montréal in the edition of 2006, 2008, 2013 and will play at the 2014, at the ASTRAL concert hall. Jacques also took part of the edition (2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) of L’OFF festival de jazz de Montréal and the 2012 edition of the Festival de jazz de Québec as first part of Gretchen Parlato concert at the Capitol de Québec hall in 2013. During a jam session in 2010 at the Rimouski Jazz Festival, Jacques met with Frédéric Alarie (famous Canadian double bass player who played for Michel Legrand, Charles Aznavour and others). Their meeting was an instant match and the trigger for the creation of a new project. In the early winter of 2011, Jacques went on tour with the polish violinist Adam Bałdych in Poland. During a concert, the same kind of connection that he had with Alarie happened with Bałdych, and the Litania projekt was born. Few months later, Adam came to Montreal to record Jacques Kuba Séguin: Litania projekt. Finally, after touring in Poland in spring 2014 Jacques performed at the Montreal international Jazz festival, at the astral concert hall, the ensemble was accompanied by a string quartet.
