Saxman ‘The Stuff that Dreams are made of...’ (PLaza Mayor/Universal Music)
“With the warmth of his sax sound, inspired by the cinema of the ‘40s,
“The Stuff that Dreams are made of…’, Saxman’s new album is a real moment
of pleasure for jazz fans everywhere.
Residing in France for over a decade, the native californian Shannon Murray,
becomes ‘Saxman’ once he picks up his saxophone.
For ‘The Stuff that Dreams are made of…’, his third solo album, Saxman is accompanied by Guillaume Souriau on the double bass, Emile Biayenda on drums and Didier Fréboeuf on the piano.
With this line up Saxman , against the backdrop of the cinema of the ’40s, takes us through a musical voyage of original compositions that are more highly acclaimed than were the films that inspired the album at the time of their release..”

Saxman ‘The Stuff that Dreams are made of...’
“A very agreeable album from the quartet...(Saxman) is a very talented saxophonist whose clear and rich tenor sound reminds one of Gato, Sonny and other Sax greats.
The music is melodic, warm , dynamic and, with eight original compositions
from Saxman, ideal for a classic jazz quartet : sax, piano, double bass and drums.
The themes are well developed and the solos flow naturally. The Sidemen make
their presence felt. Guillaume Souriau (bass) and Didier Fréboeuf (piano), traditionally trained jazz musicians, anchor themselves on the percussive rhythms of drummer Emile Biayenda, who now lives in France, after a long stint playing in the Congo and Namibia, which explains his influences.
This new album from Saxman is a great success....”

“It pretty much goes without saying that if you're not a fan of jazz, and most importantly, the saxophone, then you won't really enjoy this album.
For the rest of us, however, this is an interesting album that sees Shannon Murray (aka Saxman) delivering another smooth jazz set.
The album contains 8 tracks (41 min, 34 sec) and this time around Murray draws inspiration for his work from the 1940s genre of Hollywood cinema known as film noir. This isn't, as you may be expecting, a dark and moody affair, but a rather upbeat collection of saxophone tracks. This is the perfect background music for a quiet night in. Put a log on the fire and turn the lights down low and you're in for a chilled evening. 8/10 ”
