Tobias Preisig

Tobias Preisig, born in 1981 in Zurich, was admitted as the first violin student at the “Swiss Jazz School” in Berne at the age of seventeen. In 1998, soloist awards from several festivals in Switzerland. Performances with the Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra and in 1999 he represents the Swiss Jazz School at the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) in Paris. Music study at the New- School University, Jazz Department in New York City, completed his degree with “Bachelor of Fine Arts” in 2002. In 2000, he was invited to join the Masterclass at the Ravinia Jazz Festival in Chicago. In 2003, touring Europe with the European Youth Jazz Orchestra, followed by a six months’ stay in Paris. In 2004, he starts his own quartet – first CD “Chapter One”. Various concerts in Switzerland and two tours with “Sax n’ Sounds” in Germany and the Netherlands. 2004 to 2007 classical studies at the Academy for Music and Theatre in Zurich. Cultural sponsor award from the canton Appenzell for a violin soloist project. Tobias Preisig performs with several bands of different styles such as Herbie Kopf’s “Close Contact”, his own band “Warnton”, Albin Brun’s “Alpine Ensemble” as well as with “Johannes Lauers Streicheinheit”, “Araxi Karnusian’s Strange Sound-Beautiful Music” and the “Kaleidoscope String Quartet”. Concerts and cooperation with George Gruntz, Luciano Biondini, Thomas Demenga, Daniel Schnyder, Christian Zehnder and Nik Bärtsch. In 2008 he performs at the Montreux Jazz Festival and at the Jazz Festival Willisau. In 2009 he records a Duo CD with George Gruntz and David Liebman as a guest and he is Artist in Residence at Moods in Zurich. His new quartet releases his debut recording "Flowing Mood" in april 2010 on the the New York Label ObliqSound.
