Xenovibes

Xenovibes [XV] is a name known in the international electronic pop and progressive music worlds, and synonymous with the faces of its creator, Shueh-li Ong and XV partner John Anthony Martinez. XV aka [foreign + expressions] began in 2003 as the sonic melange of "Singapore's 1st and only diva of the theremin" when she fused her Austral-Asian heritage with her classical- technology training. XV CDs bear Shueh-li's studio production trademark whilst the shows carry the passion and aggression of live performance. 'Xing Paths' is their 3rd installment and a new dimension to their music.
From diametrically opposed cultures and hemispheres (Chinese Australian based in Singapore and Puerto Rican American), Xenovibes has Shueh-li Ong (the mind behind Xenovibes) and John Anthony Martinez; aka Moog artist and Yamaha e-Drummer respectively as its core.

Artists who have appeared with Xenovibes (concerts and CDs) include Dean Parks, Curtis Randall, Bill Ham, Shelley Carrol, Mike McKinney, Chuck Smith, Bernard Wright.

You’d be forgiven if the prospect of listening to a rare new instrument makes you cringe. Especially so if the instrument in question is an electronic one invented early last century, with a sound most commonly associated with cheesy low-budget science fiction flicks. But the theremin really deserves to be cut some slack. What it needs is the right ambassador to re-introduce it to modern ears.

“Sophisticated pop that fuses Eastern and Western music influences into a seamless whole that only an exceptional talent can pull off!" - Evolution of Media USA

Created in 2003, Xenovibes [foreign+expressions] began as the sonic melange of “Singapore's 1st and only diva of the theremin" Shueh-li Ong. "What do you get when you mix synthesizers, theremins, traditional folk instruments and electronic drums with a multitalented, multicultural, classically trained keyboardist (with a degree in electronic music) and a New York jazz drummer? The answer is Xenovibes!" ~ M Levine, Exec Editor/Snr Media Prod, Electronic Musician Magazine, feb 2008

"Music From Another Land (2nd CD) ...is very well produced! It's not uncommon to hear albums by thereminists that master divinely the instrument but are simply not able to produce themselves.
This is not the case of Shueh-li Ong, who really plays the studio like a musical instrument itself.
Shueh-li Ong is an inspired artist with a solid background who has brought fresh ideas in the theremin field, so I would expect further surprises as she develops her unique artistic path." ~ V Saggini, ThereminVox.com ITALY, may 2007
