Dom Angelo Mongiovi

Guitarist, producer and researcher, master and PhD in music from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), Dom Angelo Mongiovi covers a versatility of works related to the artistic universe. Early in his career he released two albums with the band Mula Manca & Fabulosa Figura, O Circo da Solidão (2004) and Amor & Pastel (2007). Then he visited the work of Chico Buarque de Holanda with the band Seu Chico, launching the DVD Tem Mais Samba (2010) in partnership with Canal Brasil. As a "band leader", acting in the area of ​​jazz and instrumental music, he released three albums: Dom Angelo Jazz Combo (2010), Porto (2015) and Mongiovi Trio (2020). He held concerts at the main Jazz and Blues festivals in the region and regularly performs on stages, bars and pubs in the city of Recife. He has also worked in the main capitals of Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Natal, Maceió) and in several presentations in the cities of Aveiro and Porto, in Portugal. As a cultural producer, he is the curator and musical director of the Panela do Jazz Festival and presenter of the radio program Panela do Jazz for Frei Caneca 101.5 FM and in podcast. He is the director of the Boa Vista Jazz Records label, the first of its kind in Pernambuco, which aims to promote research, recordings and publications within the scope of improvised music. He is an expert on cultural projects (FAC 2018 and Funcultura 2017 and 2019) and an agent for jazz concerts and seasons around the city. As a sideman guitarist, he accompanies artists such as Almério, Marcello Rangel, Arthur Philipe and Cláudia Beija. As a teacher, he taught classical guitar for 4 years at the Music Academy of Vizela (Portugal) and teaches Contemporary Harmony courses at the João Pernambuco Municipal School of Art.
