Edie Daponte

Edie Daponte Biography-Long Equally at home in an intimate lounge setting or an outdoor festival stage, Edie Daponte has established a reputation in the music scene of Vancouver Island and Western Canada as a dynamic and engaging performer. Edie brings passion, playfulness and an evident love of performance to her live shows. A regular performer in her town of Sidney as the house singer for the Beacon Landing, Edie has performed at festivals including the Victoria International Jazz Festival and the Vancouver Latin Festival. In 2017, Edie’s original song “Island Rain” was awarded Song of the Year in the Jazz category by the Vancouver Island Music Awards and in 2016, Edie was nominated as "Vocalist of the Year" by the same. In 2017, Edie's song 'Ride the Wind' was nominated in the Traditional category of the International Portuguese Music Awards. Emotive, passionate and deeply sexy, audiences have come to expect a wide variety of styles from Edie’s performances. You can feel her love of music and rhythm as she moves seamlessly from bossa nova to jazz and back again, switching between Portuguese, Spanish and French language numbers effortlessly. Edie released her second studio album in 2016, after 2012’s Love Bossa, a latin- styled collection sung mainly in Brazilian Portuguese. Young at Heart is a collection of Edie’s own original material alongside some of her and her fans' favourite standards. It reflects all of Edie’s passions including the west-coast of Canada and captures the increasing strength and diversity of Edie’s musical repertoire. Recorded in Victoria by Juno nominated Joby Baker at Baker Studios Ltd., the album features arrangements by Joey Smith with musical performances from Baker, Smith, Karel Roessingh, Richard Moody, Damian Graham, Adrian Dolan, Monik Nordine and Miguelito Valdes. You’ll often find her singing from a duo to a quintet accompanied by the talented local musicians including Joey Smith, Karel Roessingh, Jan Stirling and Damian Graham. Together they create a wonderful atmosphere, engaging audiences large and small, drawing audiences in and rewarding them with classic numbers they love to hear. http://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/edie-daponte/id511667731
