Enayet Hossain

Enayet is a tabla player born into an Indian musical family and am a third-generation musician.  His father is from India and mother from Bangladesh and Enayet was born in Bangladesh before his family migrated to the United States when he was 6 years old. He learned from his father, Hamid Hossain who is a very well-known Indian music teacher based in the United States, who has taught at UMBC and has trained thousands of students in tabla, sitar and Indian classical vocal music. Enayet is versatile in accompanying North Indian classical music, instrumental, light, and semi-classical music, including thumri, ghazal, and world fusion music, as well as giving solo performances. Enayet started his work in fusion music much later, after felt he had established himself as an Indian classical musician first.

Enayet started accompanying India’s top musicians at 17, including Aftab-E-Sitar Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Pandit Jasraj, and more. Enayet has been featured on over 50+ CD album recordings and he continues to record both in Indian classical music and world music / fusion genres.  Enayet studied Computer Science in college and used his knowledge to create groundbreaking products for Indian music, including the critically acclaimed Sangeetpedia an intense work and an encyclopedia of North Indian classical music featuring videos, audio files, pictures and over 1,500 well defined terms of North Indian classical Music.

Enayet formed the Indian-Jazz Fusion group Melodic Intersect in 2013, bringing together rising Indian classical and fusion artists worldwide. The group's albums have charted on the CMJ charts in the US and been accepted in the 57th, 58th, 61st and 62nd Grammy awards, with a nomination for best world music album in the 14th Annual Independent Awards.  Melodic Intersect’s albums has always been charted on radio reaching #1 on Roots Music Reporter and topping #4 on the NACC world music and Latin charts.

Enayet is one of the few Indian musicians to be a full active voting member of the Recording Academy and actively votes in the Grammy Awards. He has also received citations from the state of Maryland for his outstanding contributions to the propagation of Indian music and its synthesis in American society.
