Erik Verwey

Over the years, Erik developed as a serious jazz artist and set up his own artist driven stages in Amsterdam (hutspot, langereis, thuis a/d Amstel) where he regularly invites some of the finest jazz performers.

His debut album people flow will be released december 2020. This record will consist of his own compositions and arrangements and will feature mainly his trio with daniel van dalen on drums, hendrik müller on bass and bart wirtz and teus nobel as guests.

After graduating from the conservatories of utrecht (bachelor) and the hague (master), pianist Erik Verwey (1987) worked for many years as a composer and accompanist of various successful theater and cabaret programs. these theatre tours have given him a lot of composing experience. however, in addition to his musical activities in the theatre world, Erik had a great urge, or rather a musical necessity, to write and to play his own music. the wish was: to write his own pieces with his favorite musicians, in the tradition of the jazz piano trio. that is why Erik started to work on his own debut album for the last few years. 'People Flow' is a musical translation of how Erik is inspired by his encounters with people. Erik took these encounters back home to his house on the river Amstel. on People Flow people and places are translated into music and that has resulted in this special debut album in which each piece forms a portrait in his story. The music can best be described as spatial, recorded on an accessible and, from beginning to end, dynamic sounding debut album. Cinematic improvisations are a leading part of the music, with roots in jazz and space for all three members of the trio. With drummer Daniel van Dalen, also known from fuse (houseband podium witteman), Erik has been playing for more than 12 years, in different formations but is indispensable for this trio. Hendrik Mūller, completed the trio last year at the double bass.

Guest contributions from top musicians Bart Wirtz (alto saxophone) and Teus Nobel (bugel) can also be heard on a few songs. Last year the trio played at various venues, culminating in the Bali jazz festival. you can watch a registration of this on youtube (with substitute drummer Joan Teról Amigo).

But not perhaps as much as do the encounters with people who flow, river-like, through his life. Encounters that Verwey has translated into People Flow, his debut album. Verwey's sounds, on eight piano ...
