Georgia Cecile
Cécile’s debut album which topped the UK Jazz Album charts, showcases ten original songs co-written and arranged with Stevenson, featuring a lush acoustic palette of jazz quartet, Hammond organ, strings and horns. Described by Jamie Cullum as a “songwriting pair to watch out for” the finished songs are the fruits of a decade-long songwriting partnership between Cécile and Stevenson, a collaboration which has seen the pair writing and producing songs that draw inspiration from an era when composers such as Burt Bacharach and Marvin Hamlisch enjoyed mainstream appeal whilst wearing their jazz credentials proudly on their sleeves.
The album has a timeless, cinematic quality, fusing classic jazz and soul influences as diverse as Duke Ellington, Nancy Wilson and Stevie Wonder with a contemporary edge in the vein of Gregory Porter and Melody Gardot. With Cécile’s voice and storytelling as the focal point, the songs are lyrical reflections on themes of love, loss, nurture and spiritual growth. The album is up for ‘Album of the Year’ at this years’ Scottish Jazz Awards, where she is also currently nominated for ‘Vocalist of the Year’.
A gifted live performer, Cécile supported Gregory Porter across four sell-out shows at the Royal Albert Hall with her trio. She recently performed her debut at Ronnie Scott’s to a sold-out audience, followed by an appearance at the prestigious opening gala of London Jazz Festival - ‘Jazz Voice’ with an orchestra lead by Guy Barker. She is set to perform a headline show at Edinburgh’s Queens Hall where she will host her official album launch concert with 12-piece ensemble including strings and horns. Cécile will also perform at Hoxton’s new live hotspot - Folklore for an industry showcase on 1st of December.
