Album Description

Produced as a jazz crossover, "Girl" took inspiration from The Beatles' rendition of "Twist and Shout" by Phil Medley and Bert Berns. The melody was literally dreamed up on November 20, 2017, and drafts of several verses were written based on a dream. The lyrics play on themes in "Let's Keep It Between Us" by Bob Dylan and "Lola" by The Kinks. Michael Ghegan (vocal, saxophones) came forward and filled a central role. Jordan Perlson (drums, tambourine) gave a foundational performance that takes flight at 1:34. Brian Lawlor (electric piano) punctuated effortless playing with distinctive voicings. Cody McCorry (electric bass) nailed it on the first take.

All About Jazz needs your support

Donate
All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
