Giulia Barba Giulia Barba

Born in Bologna in 1984, Italian reed player Giulia Barba decided to pursue musical studies after she majored in philosophy at the university of Bologna. Only than she began studying music, first in Italy, than at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, where she had the opportunity to learn from the greatest teachers both from the European and American scene (Ferdinand Povel, Dick Oatts, Justin DiCioccio).

Giulia Barba's debut album “The Angry St.Bernard” was released in June 2013 at Blue Serge Records.

ALL ABOUT JAZZ : Listening to The Angry St. Bernard by musician and composer Giulia Barba, it is surprising to learn that it is her debut recording. A baritone saxophonist (maybe the Italian equivalent to Claire Daly), she displays a jazz veteran's maturity in both her compositions and playing. (Mark Corroto, All About Jazz)

“With reforms like The Angry St. Bernard there is no need for a revolution. The avant-garde on this record means no break-up with the tradition, but an ingenious processing of it” (5 stars review, Het Parool, NL).

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
