The Gnu Trio was formed by three Argentine musicians living in Madrid, Spain at the beginning of 2007. The saxophonist, Marcelo Peralta, and guitarist, Guillermo Bazzola, first met in 1982 and have since collaborated on countless musical projects both in Spain and Argentina. Andrés Litwin, the youngest member, arrived in Madrid at the end of 2006 after living in Holland and studying at the prestigious Amsterdam Conservatory. Gnu Trio’s musical sensibility is innovative--it cannot be pigeonholed--and knows no stylistic boundaries. While fitting within the wide universe of jazz, it does so from a dynamic and all-inclusive perspective. Free jazz organically mingles with traditional forms of African-American music, rock, blues, Andean folk songs, and eastern sounds. The result is a wide-ranging combination of timbres and nuances, blending electronic sounds with a variety of wind instruments and percussion. In short, the Gnu Trio takes us on a journey through the lifetime of artistic and personal experiences of each member, creatively joined through the exquisite art of musical improvisation.
