Album Description

From the 1920's to the 1950's, The Great American Songbook gave rise to many wonderful songs about love and loss. You can find them in the recordings by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and many more artists who were working during this period and beyond. For me, one of the most haunting and beautiful of these songs is 'Gone Withe Wind', written by Allie Wrubel and Herb Magidson in 1937. The title bears the same name of the famous book by Margaret Mitchell and the even more famous film, starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, released a couple of years later in 1939. But it is, according to various sources, just a coincidence.

All About Jazz needs your support

Donate
All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
