Album Description

The strains of American musical tradition are as deep and diverse as the lands of our forebears. Heritage celebrates that diversity and the different backgrounds that combined to shape an American cultural identity. Each piece on this album draws on some form of American traditional music – bluegrass, Appalachian folk, spirituals, early blues, and others – to connect the dots from America’s musical roots to contemporary forms of improvised music. "Heritage" features six different compositional approaches to this concept, each marked definitively by its composer’s personal story. The collection of pieces is set together in the spirit of art being borne of many parents. Composers: Owen Broder, Miho Hazama, Bill Holman, Alphonso Horne, Jim McNeely, Ryan Truesdell Producer: Ryan Truesdell
