Double bassist and sound artist Hugo Blouin composes with the musicality of life. His work involves a love of both experimentation and tradition, and a fascination for the musicality of the human speech.
His Vocal Jazz project “Charbonneau ou les valeurs à’ bonne place” won the 2019 Jazz Concert of the Year Award from the Quebec Music Council, and the 2018 Jazz Album of the Year Award at the Gala for Quebec’s Alternative Music. Dubbed one of documentary jazz, the project was created from the records of the tragic, yet comical testimonies at the Quebec-famous Charbonneau enquiry commission on corruption in politics.
Hugo Blouin plays with the Jonathan Turgeon Trio (2018 Stingray Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festtival), the Christine Tassan Quintet and the folk band MAZ (2017 Womex Official Selection). His work has been heard in Canada and the United States, as well as in Mexico, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland and Ghana. Hugo Blouin lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
