Ian Sinclair

A Saskatchewan born and raised musician, Ian Sinclair is an experienced, creative, and versatile pianist that has led a varied career as a performer and educator. During his recent stay in Dallas from 2004 through 2007, he performed with numerous award-winning jazz groups including the University of North Texas 2 O'Clock Lab Band and the Brian Donohoe Quintet which was named the country's Most Outstanding College Jazz Small Ensemble in 2007 by jazz's most prominent publication, Down Beat Magazine. Ian's own quintet was featured as part of the University of North Texas's 2007 CD, Étranger, which featured the best musicians in its prestigious jazz program. He also played with commercial acts ranging from a tenure as keyboardist for Dallas's most popular cover band Emerald City Band to appearances with famous entertainers like Little Anthony and the Imperials. Prior to his time in Dallas, he had performed with acclaimed groups in Montreal and Saskatoon.

In 2007, he was selected as the Artist-in-Residence and Lecturer at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho a position he held until 2008. In addition to teaching taught jazz piano and jazz appreciation, he performed extensively with faculty and visiting jazz artists. As of September 2009, he will be starting studies at the University of Toronto in the Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance program, the first doctoral jazz program in Canada.

A native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Ian developed a love of music because of the community's strong support for music education both in an out of the schools. He is also an alumnus of the University of Saskatchewan and its Music Education program.
