Jake Blackshear

Jake Blackshear is a saxophonist rooted deeply in the traditions of the past with his eyes toward the future. Major influences include Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderly, Joe Henderson and Mark Turner. He is also interested in creating new concepts in improvisation and utilizing musics of other cultures. A professional since the age of sixteen and a graduate of San Diego State's Master's Program in Jazz studies, Jake is able to adapt to almost any musical situation. The Jake Blackshear Quartet was formed in 2002. As a straight ahead jazz group, they have played venues all across California from Eureka to San Diego
