Jakob Davidsen

Jakob Davidsen (born in 1969) studied composition and orchestration with, among others, the Danish composers Bo Holten and Niels Marthinsen, and has also toured and recorded with many names from the Danish jazz and world music scene, including Takuan and Bright Sight. He has made a close study of the composers Olivier Messiaen and Per Nørgård, who, along with the arranger Gil Evans and the pianist Bill Evans, have left deep traces on Davidsen's music. Since 1991 he has been the leader of The Crossover Ensemble, which since the very start has been a significant band on the Scandinavian jazzscene. The Crossover Ensemble has toured in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium and Germany, and has made 3 highly praised CDs, most recently “Helios Suite”, where also the internationally known stringquartet, The Zapolski Quartet, participated. The ensemble's music can be hard to pigeonhole. The basis is jazz, but strong influences from contemporary composition music, eastern music and rock have always been striking features of its music. Since 2004 his new, international band Mangfoldighed (Diversity) has been playing concerts throughout Denmark and released three highly praised CDs. Jakob Davidsen has had several commissions from both classical ensembles and jazz ensembles, most recently from the Classical duo “Wind Chimes” and “The Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra”.
