James Eason

Born in San Francisco, James Eason began his jazz saxophone studies while in high school with some of the best saxophonists in the Bay Area — most notably, Jim Grantham and Mel Martin.

While attending San Jose State University, he began his studies with Joe Henderson. After two years at SJSU he transferred to Berklee College of Music as a Jazz Composition & Arranging major. While at Berklee he had the pleasure of studying with Joe Viola, Billy Pierce, George Garzone, and John McNeil. After Berklee he got his Master of Music at New England Conservatory of Music. He studied composition with William T. McKinley and the Lydian Chromatic Concept with it's creator George Russell.

During his time in Boston he was fortunate to also learn from other talented friends, classmates and peers like Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Jeff Parker, Donny McCaslin, et al.

He moved to New York where he later had a detour from music with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. He was a member of the popular and successful troupe Mother (as featured in a chapter of Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink"), performed in a variety improv and sketch shows, and made several film and TV appearances.

Now settled in Los Angeles, he has reignited his passion for music and plays and records regularly.
