I am a top call saxophonist in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, presently developing a national presence following the release of my debut CD, She's Hip. I play all saxophones, specialize in mainstream and hard bop jazz (my heart is firmly in the middle of the last century!) and am a Selmer artist. I also play flute and clarinet and maintain a busy freelance performance schedule. I am also active as an educator and adjudicator. A recent career highlight was sharing the concert stage in a quintet setting with jazz great Clark Terry. My fans have voted me TOP SAX for three years running and I appear frequently as a guest artist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Please visit my website! It's hard to tell everything here!
Mainly Selmer saxophones. Selmer Super Action 80 soprano, Mark VI tenor and alto. Baritone is a Yamaha, as is my flute. Clarinet is a Buffet R13.
“Finlay’s saxophone was the anchor of (the Janice Finlay Jazz Quartet’s) sound with catchy songwriting that weaved with the passion of musical storytelling… her musical ability and creativity have the strength to carry the group on her own…”
Jon Thompson, Kenora Miner and News
“…Janice Finlay’s rock-solid saxophone solos.”
Holly Harris, Winnipeg Free Press
“Findlay (sic) is a truly classic player, able to take the conventions of jazz and create a fresh sound.”
Cindy Filipenko, Herizons magazine,
“…you can’t miss the conviction, whether she’s tearing up a chart on tenor or alto with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra or blowing cool flute on a club date.”
Randall McIlroy, Uptown Magazine
“…it’s the musical director, Janice Finlay, one of the most sought-after musicians…on Winnipeg’s jazz scene, who comes across as the real star of this outfit.”
