Janno Trump Janno Trump

Janno Trump (born 1990) is one of the most notable younger generation bassists in Estonia, he is primarily active on jazz music scene but has played and recorded albums with different pop and rock artists as well. He’s written music for smaller jazz ensembles as well for big bands and he is also the leader of the jazz-funk orchestra Trump Conception.

Janno Trump has graduated from Tallinn Georg Ots Music School and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he was educated by Estonian bass gurus Raul Vaigla and Taavo Remmel. From the great names of world jazz Trump names Yellowjackets, Richard Bona, Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius as his role models. In his own words he is mostly groove, soul, funk and gospel religious. Free improvisation and compositionality bring jazz aesthetics to his music. Thanks to his musician parents, Trump has been connected to music and playing instruments his whole life. He started writing his own music in Tallinn Georg Ots Music School and his compositions have won awards at Uno Naissoo Competition of Music Composition twice. One of these recognized pieces “Torumees” was selected to the dignified repertoire of “Estonian Jazz Anthology” together with Estonian jazz top composers - in February 2016 the composition was performed by Estonian Dream Big Band in Kumu Auditorium and Tartu Concert Hall.
In addition to Trump Conception Janno supports many other bands with his bass playing. He is actively contributing to the following groups: Linda Kanter Quartet, Funkifize, Lauri Liiv Swingband, Late’s 5, The Swingin’ Sisters & Band.

“It doesn’t occur frequently that Estonian musicians step on the domains of black musicians and swear loyalty to the groove. Trump Conception, headed by the bassist Janno Trump, has done it and the outcome is an unprecedently orchestrated RnB and excellent groove.”     H. Hanson, 2016

“Trump Conception, led by Janno Trump, is an irresistable live act full of American funk-energy.” J.Sang, 2016

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
