At age 18, Prover became a founding member of the nationally touring band, Umoja Orchestra. He played with a number of other ensembles, as well, such as his Lower 13th Street Jazz Band and the blues-drenched music of Michael Claytor and Friends. At age 22, Prover was named Charter President of U.F.'s Jazz Appreciation Student Society/Jazz Collective. He also wrote a music column for the Fine Print Newspaper
