Hailing from Portland, ME, Jeffrey K. Witherell is a unique and fearless artist that is stretching and breaking the boundaries of jazz and contemporary music. His music can be described as a musique concrete/avant garde jazz crossover. JKW spends a large amount of time doing field recordings in the darkest, most abandoned places on the east coast-WWII bunkers, train tunnels, and the middle of the forest. His live performances can only be described as electrifying, intense experiences that are not for the faint of heart, epileptics, or traditionalists. Currently finishing his degree at Manhattan School of Music, JKW studies with the great master John Riley, and before that he learned a great deal from the avant-garde pioneer Bob Gullatti in Boston. Although Manhattan School of Music doesn't support their truly innovative students with scholarship, Jeffrey is taking out loans and is hoping that Obama turns the U.S. into a socialist nation before he has to pay them back.
