Jerry Velona

Jerry Velona is a Boston area singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He's played and sung in a number of Boston bands and has written songs which have appeared on HBO, MTV and elsewhere. His voice has been featured in commercials and the theme song for the independent film “Lifestyles of the Poor and Unknown”.

Jerry attended Berklee College of Music and has released six albums of original material some of which achieved international airplay and rave reviews. Jerry's original music is expressed in many styles including rock, blues, funk, jazz, and country. His versatile yet distinctive vocals capture the various genres in a way that few others can. His 2012 release Dream Girl hit #26 on the Smooth Jazz charts. It was Jerry's first jazz release and contains five tracks that run the gamut from smooth, contemporary jazz to dixieland to swing. It's available for sale and download at www.cdbaby.com and streaming everywhere

His most current release is About Funk In Time. About the album, Steve Morse, former staff writer for the Boston Globe and Professor of Rock History at Berklee College of Music said, "One of Boston's best-kept secrets is Jerry Velona, a veteran singer/drummer whose albums are often high-quality events. This one is no exception. It is a lively, danceable, downright festive romp through old-school funk and soul classics, spiced with some original tunes that fit right in. Jerry does justice to the likes of Marvin Gaye's "Hitchhiker," Otis Redding's "I've Got Dreams to Remember," and Junior Walker and the Allstars' smash hit, "(I'm a) Roadrunner." And speaking of allstars, Velona has gathered a cream-of-the-crop crew of Boston talent such as guitarist Duke Levine, sax men Paul Ahlstrand and Gordon Beadle, and keyboardist Dave Limina. The result is a high- powered musical summit topped by Velona, who adds his own more straightforward rocking numbers, "Ms. Vesoluvska" and "Tight Little Suit." An extremely pleasurable journey that is further guided by Jerry's liner note to "Please play it loud!" Yes, indeed, we did." He writes, records and performs with his bands Joint Venture and Pack of Viceroys in the greater Boston area.

"There’s always room for out-of-the-box excursions, and Boston-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Velona magnificently travels down that road with DREAM GIRL. It’s cool and charismatic music... Velona is a pro: His voice has been featured in TV commercials and independent films... On his fifth solo CD, Velona combines a number of jazz styles, from smooth and contemporary to classic, Dixie and swing. There are two versions of the cover track and hit single, “Dream Girl,” the first a noir-ish Smooth Jazz track with the enchanting sax of Paul Ahlstrand
