Johnny Hunter is a drummer and composer based in Manchester. Outside of leading his own quartet and the piano trio, Fragments, he works with many different musicians and groups such as Martin Archer's Engine Room Favourites, Mick Beck, Nat Birchall, Blind Monk Trio, Adam Fairhall, Misha Gray's Prehistoric Jazz Quintet, Mark Hanslip, Dave Kane, Corey Mwamba, and Cath Roberts to name a few. Johnny has enjoyed recent radio plays on BBC Radio 3's “Jazz on 3” with his own quartet, the Anton Hunter Trio, a live broadcast from the 2013 London Jazz Festival, and several appearances with Nat Birchall's group.

Connects authentically with jazz tradition, whilst developing its own voice through original composition – a fabulous advertisement for British jazz. – Adrian Pallant, London Jazz News
I am coming to regard Johnny Hunter as serious crème de la crème and it is not just about his playing, though he is a hell of a technician. His whole approach to the role of the drummer is a dynamic one, he arranges any band he is in through his drum kit..
