John Kerningham Sidney Scott

John (Johnny) Kerningham Sidney Scott is a jazz vocalist and tenor saxophonist. He is remembered as a wonderful entertainer who has given a great deal of pleasure to audiences in Canada, United States, Europe and the Middle East. He was best known as a mainstay at the House of Jazz and its former incarnation, Biddle's, for more than three decades.

Scott was born in Buffalo, N.Y. where, at the age of 15, he began is musical studies. He was a one-time member of Aretha Franklin's church choir group. He later enlisted in the Army and subsequently became a member of a band formed to entertain American troupes in Europe.

He later became the leader of that group of very fine musicians. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, Johnny decided to take up residence in Montreal, Canada, where he has lived and practiced his craft for approximately 35 years.

He worked year in, year out with such musicians as pianists Geoff Lapp, Jeff Johnston and Wray Downes and drummers Wali Muhummad and Dave Laing.

The ensuing years proved this very fine Artist to be a versatile and talented performer who is equally at ease performing Pop music, R&B, Blues and of course, jazz.

His exceptional vocal styling, rich baritone voice, and his unique style on the tenor saxophone, allows him to captivate his audiences and leave them begging for more. He is a man with a great sense of humor, which also adds to his appeal.

He is also a recording artist, who in 1986 produced his first album “From Now On”, on his own label “JazzCo”, featuring pianist Geoffrey Lapp and himself on vocals. This recording was followed by his 1990 production “Contrasts” featuring some of Montreal’s finest jazz musicians, including Geoff Lapp, George Mitchel on Bass and David Lang, on drums.

In addition to his live performances in Canada and the United States, Johnny has made several appearances in motion pictures, on television and in several television commercials for Labatt 50 and Loto 6/46.
