Jonathan Whitney

Jonathan Whitney received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware with a concentration in music education and percussion. During his final years at the University of Delaware, as well as for several years following his graduation, Jonathan worked extensively with jazz legend Donald Byrd. Jonathan marched for 6 years in the snare line of the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, and also taught the cymbal line for two additional years. Jonathan has also done arranging work for several educational institutions including the Brandywine High School, Towson University, and Shepherd University. Jonathan taught middle and upper school instrumental programs professionally for eleven years, and was the music coordinator at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, Delaware for the last two years. Jonathan is currently working towards receiving his M.M. in Jazz Studies with a focus on the drum set from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He performs regularly within a variety of musical genres including classical performance, jazz, rock, pop, and gospel.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
